Our Story
AirPay Financial Technologies was founded in Sydney in 2016 with a single clear purpose: to help Australian merchants capture every sale — including from the rapidly growing wave of Chinese tourists and students arriving on our shores.
At the time, most Australian acquirers had no answer for Alipay, WeChat Pay, or UnionPay at the point of sale. AirPay was built to close that gap — combining local acquiring expertise with deep knowledge of China’s payment ecosystem, all under one platform.
From our first luxury retail client, we grew into the payment partner of choice for some of Australia’s most recognised international brands, including Gucci, Canada Goose, and Paspaley. Over ten years, we expanded our platform beyond card acquiring to include Bulago digital wallets, Giftz Gift Cards, and BPAY bill payments — giving Australian and New Zealand businesses a single partner for every payment need.
